Base maps | Navigation | Backscatter | Bathymetry | Shaded relief | Samples | Geology | Home Each GIS data file is listed with a brief description, a link to a graphic, links to metadata files, the name of the equivalent shapefile, and a link to the downloadable file. The data were compiled in ArcInfo (version 8.0.2, ESRI, 1982-2000) in the UTM Zone 10 coordinate system with datum NAD83. Raster data layers are in ArcInfo GRID format or are registered TIFF images. Point, line and polygon features are in ArcInfo COVERAGE format. Shapefiles were generated for those coverages where the shape format did not degrade the data excessively. The data files can be accessed directly from the CD-ROM with ESRI ArcExplorer, ArcView, or ArcInfo. The GIS data are also viewable on the Coastal and Marine Geology internet map server at http://coastalmap.marine.usgs.gov/regional/contusa/westcoast/. To transfer data files to your local computer:
Compressed downloadable files are available only from the web site and are not included on the CD-ROM version of this publication. The downloadable files have been compressed with the UNIX 'tar' and 'gzip' commands and can be unzipped by 'gunzip' on UNIX systems or with Winzip on Windows systems. The numbers following ".tgz" are the file size when compressed and uncompressed. The .tgz file for an ArcInfo coverage includes the export file (.e00) and the metadata file (.txt). The .tgz file for an ArcInfo grid unzips as a workspace that includes the grid and its metadata file. The .tgz file for a TIFF image includes the image (.tif), the world registration file (.tfw), the projection file (.prj), and the metadata file (.txt). Some virus-detection software will misinterpret the compressed format as virus-bearing. Use the override option (for example, "Stop" in McAfee VirusScan) to complete the file transfer. |
