Frequently-anticipated questions:

What does this data set describe?

    Title:
FORAMGAL, FORAMMCG - foraminifers in the greater Monterey Bay area
    Abstract:

FORAMGAL is a compilation of the study of foraminifers in the Monterey Bay area conducted by Galliher in 1930-1931. FORAMMCG is a set of data about the modern occurrence of foraminifers in the same general area. The samples for FORAMMCG were collected during USGS surveys M195MB, P197MB, and P295MB (<http://walrus.wr.usgs.gov/infobank>).

These files are a part of a geographic information system of spatially referenced data related to the USGS Coastal and Marine Geology Program "Monterey Bay National Marine Sanctuary Project" <http://walrus.wr.usgs.gov/mbms>. The data were collected and analyzed between 1994 and 2000.

The following is a list of abbreviations used as item names in coverages FORAMGAL and FORAMMCG. Except for "Total count", "recrystallized and casts", and "Planktic foraminifers", which are raw counts, the item values are percentages of the total foram counts for each sample. A value of -1 indicates that that foram is rare (that is, less than 1% of the fauna) in the sample.
