Open-File Report 02-227
Rather than being concerned with individual drainage samples, we wanted to examine large, regional features in the study area. Because of the large number of individual samples and the large variations in background, we decided to grid the data. Each of the elements in the dataset was gridded using the Spatial Analyst extension of ArcView 3.2a. We performed inverse-distance weighting (to the third power) using a radius of 10,000 m.
Data quality issues relating to the grids are discussed elsewhere, but the Mesozoic cratonal margin and the approximate extent of Tertiary volcanic cover are shown to allow viewers to reach their own conclusions regarding correlation among these features and geochemistry.
